The curriculum of HSD is designed to develop Jewish values and traditions in the Jewish deaf and hearing students. The program imparts Jewish ethics, thought, religion, history and deaf culture to the Jewish deaf and hearing students.

Every Class at HSD is interpreted in sign language.

The Rabbinical Program prepares students for ordination in order to serve the Jewish Deaf community. The Teacher�s Program prepares students to receive a Teacher�s Certificate.

The Rabbinical Ordination Program:
  • must complete a five-year course of study, including one year at Jewish Theological Seminary of America (JTS) in New York City.
  • must demonstrate proficiency in both Hebrew Language and American Sign Language (ASL).
  • must pass a series of comprehensive examinations.

To determine grades, all courses require a term paper or examination. At the discretion of the instructor, both may be required.

  • graduation thesis is required in cooperation with 3 thesis advisors.

HSD will operate on a 12-month school year, with two 16-week semesters and a 9-week semester in the summer.
