Classes at HSD are conducted at Congregation Bene Shalom, a temple of the deaf located in Skokie, Illinois, a comfortable northern suburb of Chicago with a large Jewish population. Through our alliance with JTS in New York, HSD students will attend classes at the main campus in Manhattan during their fourth year.
Chicago has a large deaf community and, through HSD’s relationship with Congregation Bene Shalom, students are part of an established and active Jewish deaf community.
There is an active academic environment in this part of Chicago with several universities and colleges in the vicinity of the Seminary. Students have access to many different libraries, including those at Spertus and Hebrew Theological College.
Our Seminary in Chicago attempts to find housing and help with housing for those students who qualify.
